OLIVIA JOHNSON

Olivia Johnson is a 21- year old multi faceted creative with a sharp eye and curious drive. Not one to abide by convention, her work bends borders between journalism and art to tell stories in an unrestricted form. She aims to bring integrity and soul into the oversaturated realm of visual content and breathe life into dying journalistic standards.

Raised in Calgary, Alberta where the prairies meet the mountains, she has an affinity for the rugged and wild like the cowboys and mountaineers who precede her. She’s lived in remote lodges, collected water from frozen creeks, stoked fires for heat in the dead of winter and travelled a month by foot on a glacier in Alaska.

Her kinship to the impractical led her to a one year liberal arts program at the University of King’s College (UKC) in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Over eight months, she immersed herself in more than 75 of the Western Canon’s most seminal literary works. True to her ethos of forging her own path, in addition to continuing her studies in journalism at UKC, she attends Nova Scotia College of Art and Design (NSCAD) for film production.

Her combined passion for journalism and film has brought her beside politicians, on fishing boats in the Atlantic, to Moroccan ports and mountain summits. She has collaborated with international brands and inspiring community members- all in a year of starting her practice. Olivia is committed to honing her craft over a lifetime’s worth of stories and adventure.

Olivia takes meticulous care with all of her work, and it shows. Her videos show the extreme care and passion she has for both the stories and the lives of the subjects she is able to shine a light upon. Combining a traditional documentary framework with a fine art sensibility, Olivia is able to breathe new life into her visual storytelling, keeping the viewer engaged until the very last frame.
